On August 1, 1927, Maybelle, Sara and AP traveled to Bristol, VA to make a record. It was a hot day, their car was less than reliable, and Maybelle, who was 8 mos. pregnant with Helen, was packed into the car with AP and Sara, Gladys and Joe, their children, and her guitar. They recorded six songs over the next two days, and the rest is country music history. The music still lives -- Rosanne recorded the first song they recorded, Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow, for her cd The List just last year.
