Will someone out there help me!! LOL!! Will you listen and watch YouTube and tell me what part my mother, Anita is singing on the song Sunny Side Of Spain on the chorus. I am trying to figure out the melody to the song and it sounds like she is singing a harmony part and not the lead. They had a unique way of switching parts and I always thought that on this song on the chorus that she was on a harmony part and wasn't on the lead part, (that someone else took the lead) Her voice is louder and more distinct on the mix which would make you think it should be the lead but when I try to sing it alone and sing what she is singing it sounds like I am singing a harmony part. I just don't know. If anyone can give me an opinion, I sure would appreciate it!! You'd think that I would know, but I sure don't! Thanks!!!

| SusieQ0123 | Rosanne on June as a performer | Discussion Forum | 6 | Sunday, 12:54 PM EST by lovejuneycarter | ||||

I would just like to share this from an interview that I saw yesterday about Rosanne's new CD the List. This is just the part about her Dad and June. I really liked what she said.
JT: As a young woman, you went on the road with your father, Carl Perkins, and the Carters. How’d that influence you as a performer? RC: It influenced me more as a songwriter and guitar player. I learned how to play guitar from Helen Carter, Carl, and Maybelle a bit. We had long hours in the dressing room and they taught me all those Carter Family songs. That whole world of music was opened up to me. Then my dad made the list and that really opened the door on this vista of songs. It was a tremendous thing to sit in the wings every night and watch my dad. He had a very unique relationship with an audience and he took his full self to the stage. He was his best self on the stage. So I saw how he did that and I saw how June was unique in that she was exactly the same onstage as she was offstage. There was no performer persona in her. She could be talking to you and walk straight onstage without breaking the conversation (laughs). To see a woman that comfortable in her skin as a performer, that was inspiring to me. Here is the rest of it if you want to read it. http://www.the9513.com/rosanne-cash-discusses-the-list/

On the iwalktheline forum people kept saying that June was divorced from Rip in 1966. If that was true they would have been married 9 years. I did some checking and in her book "Among my Klediments" she writes "We had a daughter, Rozanna Lea, and we tried to have a good marriage. But it seemed Rip and I came from two different worlds. After SIX years, that marriage also ended in divorce." Ok, that would be 1963 she was divorced. She was not married as long as everyone was making her to be.

I am so happy that you all have decided to post your comments/thoughts about June and her family here on this website. Please keep in mind that bashing is not tolerated. You are allowed to express your opinions and feelings about a subject, but you need to make sure that it's not damaging someone elses reputation. When you personally attack someone else it makes the entire website look bad and is no better than the iwalktheline forum that used to exist. Posts that bash other people will be deleted. Members of the Carter/Cash family are aware of this website so please keep your posts as respectful as possible. Out of respect for John and June please be understanding towards their children. With all that being said, Enjoy the forum!

Many years ago I remember seeing an article and picture of June Carter at the Opry at the time of the death of Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. It was taken behind the curtain when the Opry members decided that "the show must go on" despite the deaths of the three Opry members. It was an AP wirephoto sent to newspapers around the country. June was in tears, watching the performances from the wings. Has anyone else seen, or more importantly, could they publish this picture/article? I would love to be able to save it on my computer.

I took Jimterry's advise and have been trying to listen to Bill Miller's radio show. So far I have caught only one of Rosanne's interviews. Has anyone else been listening?

One of my favorite songs is about June, written by Johnny. I don't think I saw it on the Lyrics list. It is called "Poor Valley Girl."
She never could give up the homestead on the farm Where they handed off toboacco in the big tobacco barn, And the long straight road that ran from the house down to the road That went to AP Carter's Store, down the logging truck she road. Oh, she'd sit and she'd gaze at the foggy mountain top Where the swift hawk circled 'round the Clinch Mountain rocks. At the school down in Hiltons, she'd read about the world Created to be conquered by this Poor Valley Girl. Her mother was an Addington, from over Copper Creek Her father was of strudy stock, she was royal but meek. Her laughter was infectious, her music was pure joy. And she'd win the herats of many men, as she had many a boy. Her mother became famous, Maybelle and her guitar With sisters Helen and Anita, the family was four star. She gave the world two daughters, and a son with auburn curls And I thank God that he gave me this sweet Poor Valley Girl. written and sung by Johnny Cash

On 5-31-04 Larry King interviewed Kathy & Cindy Cash, Tommy Cash & Joanne Cash. Larry asked Kathy if she was close to June? Her reply was "Yes, very. I adored her. She always had what we called shopping sprees, when did not know what else to do. She'd say, "Ok, you don't feel good, I don't feel good. Let's go shopping." I wonder what happened to make Kathy change her feeling about June? Just curious.

I am curious does anyone know why Vivian would write a book and list her name as Vivian Cash as author (with Ann Sharpsteen)? That was not Vivian's name at the time of the book writing. Have always wondered about that.

I always loved the way Johnny looked at June-like he just loved her to death. I think every one that knew June loved her sense of humor. She was funny. I heard that up until her death Johnny & June laughed together. June was always making Johnny laugh-guess he never got tired of it. That Aunt Polly thing is funny. Have to be pretty brave to do that.
