I thought there would be more activity on this site. June Carter Cash was a very interesting person. I didn't know her personally but I know some people who did. I enjoyed her books. I think you get a glimpse of her personality through her books. She had such wit and personaltiy. 9  out of 9 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm glad you found our site. You're right about the lack of activity....I wish more people would interact so I wouldn't have to do everything, but that has yet to happen. If you have any suggestions/comments for the site just let me know :)

I am going to alert some of my Cash/Carter friends to this site and hope that increases the activity. It is a great site, in tribute to a wonderful lady. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm right here...... Terry !........ Fired up and ready to go..........ok ol' buddy.......ol' knothead.... lets get this ball rollin' .
Hi ...msrobzombie, wildwoodflower and okiegirl42 and you too anonymous ! Glad to be aboard ! Let's see what kind of damage I can get started and if I can get some folks over here ! BUT......FIRST........

TERRY.......you know.... you're lucky to see me on here today ...... I nearly drowned last night........ what happened was......
there was a hole in the mattress and.......I fell in the spring !

Ok, now .....If no one else got that.......I know Terry did. I do a pretty good JUNE imitation. I get in my "JUNE" mode quite a bit....and love doing it !! A lot of the things I do require a "straight man" in this case......a "straight woman"... because..... there ain't no men on here yet....... . However, Terry could have played the straight 'woman' on the one above because I know she knows it and a lot of the others.. I do a lot of the old.....
young, dry sarcastic, silly before Johnny.... skits and jokes because I think they are funnier than the few she did after she and Johnny married. I am a Johnny & Juneoholic !!!! Right Terry ?...... just as she and Marion are!! I will drag her over here too.......she owes me !
Anyway.....since I can't be heard, I use ............ & ...... & ... to express or to push my punch lines which simply means to pause briefly, a bit, a good bit more or a longer pause. Terry knows how to read anything I write and it is not always a joke but could be about a personal experience . I will go fetch Marion now and like Ezra said to Mother Maybelle........we'll .........."let er rip " !

Good to see Barbara here ...another Junaholic! She and June have so many similarities...not to mention that she lives in the town that was the site for my favorite June Carter live cd ....Shreveport ...home of the Louisiana Hayride. You are so welcome here, June...and bring Marion over if you can!!! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Hi Terry, Thanks for the info to get me here and the welcome mat ! I called Marion but didn't get an answer. Left her a message though
telling her...... to get herself over here. She has been working a lot of hours lately and it's about to get her down. She will be here though.......one way......or another ! Then we can...... "Press On".
This is a terrific site. Just right for all our "JUNE" friends.
Some let her kinda get swept under the rug now & then .......and just focus on Johnny but.......they must remember........ that if there were no JUNE......there would be no.... JOHNNY !..... So....we must not let anyone forget this BIG tidbit !

Welcome slewfoot June is the greatest. without her I think Johnny would died a very early death. The Cash family hopeful thanked her with much love and respect she earned and deserved . Do you find this valuable?

HI Wildwood flower, You are probably right in saying Johnny would have died at an early age had it not been for JUNE. All evidence
certainly supports this theory! However, Terry is right on when saying ...."some not so much". There were some that most definitely did not Respect and Love her nor defend her ....that was true then and still very much true today. They know who they are and there is one that could certainly set the record straight but as of now......still chooses to remain silent....which is such a pity because for some....tomorrow never comes . No one knows what tomorrow may bring IF anything !

Apart from the Cash Daughters not appearing to publically thank and respect Jane enough, did his parents and siblings? I would love to hear more of Joanne and Tommys comments on this. June was a wonderful person. I really do hope Johnny himself thanked her enough. I do hope all the Cash Daughters and John Carter are protective of Carlene as at times she seems a little vunerable and if they truly loved June they would always be there for Carlene. They still have each other whereas Carlene lost Rosie.

Hi Anonymously, You bring up some good points here and most are exactly what I was referring to...Did his parents ....NO, Did his SIBLINGS...NO. I think his Mother always loved him dearly but am sure she disapproved of a lot of the things he did including
marrying June simply because she had been married & divorced but after getting use to it I think she tried the best that she was capable of trying. Have you ever looked at pictures of familys and even of just one person born back in that era ? They always looked so somber sad and mad. Like they weren't capable of emotions, laughing or even how to smile. This is the way Johnny's Mother struck me, I don't think she was capable of showing emotions not that it was her fault, It was just the way people were back then. Of course I wasn't around then but I've seen these really old portraits of people and familys and I can't ever remember seeing anyone smiling and as far as his Daddy went....he was from the same era but was mean as well. He didn't even like Johnny listening to music as a child and certainly didn't support him making a career with it but he wouldn't have supported him no matter what he did... although he enjoyed reaping the benefits of Johnny's career ! Joanne and Tommy ? Yeah, I would too. All they wanted was to ride along on his coat tail & seek fame for themselves & this thing says I've no more letters left. Will finish this later.

I think his mom was a serious, shy person who had a hard life. I don't think it reflected on her ability to show that she loved her family. As far as her relationship with June went, I'm sure at first it was hard realizing that they both were divorced but I think she recovered. June seems to have liked her a lot. She called her grandma and said she wanted to be like her. Mrs. Cash was always calling them up and bringing over pies. She gave June her recipes. She was always willing to talk to fans. She was a Christian lady. June paints such a nice picture of her. I know June could have said these things in her cookbook because she wanted to be nice and butter her up, but June always struck me as the kind of person who if she didn't have something nice to say, she didn't say it. There are some who are glaringly missing from her book or she glosses over that period. It also seems like they were having a friendly chat in the home movies from 1969, but I do realize the camera was on. However, I 'd rather err on the side of treating Mrs. Cash too kindly than not kindly enough. Is there any particualr reason not to think that she treated June kindly?

A side note about the pictures, when pictures were made in the real old days you had to sit for a long period of time without moving and they were often strapped in. It's hard to smile that long and you're uncomfortable. In fact, you were told not to. I'm sure it took people a little while to realize they could start smiling in their photograph when it got faster.

Here are some good quotes about what June thought about Mrs. Cash:

"I'm gonna be just like you, Grandma." I must say this every day of my life, and I really want to be. I want to grow older with your dignity, with your beauty, and your grit, Grandma!

She has a wonderful cookbook that she's autograph for you or she'll just visit with you. She's happy when she's working.

I sat with her all night, talking away. (when Mrs. Cash was in the hospital)

(phone conversation)
"You all right, children?"
"Our lights have gone out, Grandma."
"Mine's out too. Been out an hour. I couldn't see any lights from your house on the lake. Light soem candles, keep some ready. Don't you all get too cold. Build some fires. I've got one going. Call me if you need anything."

She and Grandpa Cash sat at their altar table for all these years with their family and held them together, as did my mother did her family, with prayer and good food.

She's eighty-four years old, has always been kind and wonderful to me, and I wish we had more people who lived the way she does.
---
It sounds like their relationship was just fine and like Mrs. Cash was a good person.
