Rip

On the iwalktheline forum people kept saying that June was divorced from Rip in 1966. If that was true they would have been married 9 years. I did some checking and in her book "Among my Klediments" she writes "We had a daughter, Rozanna Lea, and we tried to have a good marriage. But it seemed Rip and I came from two different worlds. After SIX years, that marriage also ended in divorce." Ok, that would be 1963 she was divorced. She was not married as long as everyone was making her to be. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

On IMDB.com it says June and Rip divorced in 1966 so thats probably y everyone was saying that on the iwalkedtheline forum. Since June wrote in her book she was married to him for 6 years, maybe they were seperated for a while first and then made the divorce legal in 1966.....i don't know....thats weird. I had always heard that she divorced Rip shortly after Ring of Fire. I had read it in other books also. I never heard of a separation. Charlene said that they came home one time and Rip was gone and he was never in the home again. I think the information on IMDB is incorrect. Rip and June were having problems not long after Rosie was born and when she joined Johnny's show it got even worse. Do you find this valuable?

Yeah i guess the info on IMDB is wrong then. Maybe somebody can ask Kathy if she knows anything about it. Do you find this valuable?

In John's book June was still married to Rip the night John was kicked off the Grand Ole Opry. John wrecked June's car and she said that it caused problems at home. I believe that happened in 1965. Do you find this valuable?

John got kicked off long before that. It was before he recorded Ring of Fire. Do you find this valuable?

A lot of places say 1966. My guess is that she felt like the marriage was over in 1963 because that's about the time she realized she was in love with Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash said somewhere there was a point when they both realized they would both end up divorced. Do you find this valuable?

It was 1965 when he was kicked off the Opry, so it must have been 1966. Her loaning him the car may have been the event to escalate things into a divorce. Do you find this valuable?

Carlene has said in an interview she was around 8 when Rip left. If you will notice in the pictures of June, Rosie and Carlene with the school bags, June is not wearing a ring and Carlene is not 11. June said in her book after 6 years the marriage ended in a divorce. I think the movie confused a lot of people because the dates for many of the events in the movie were wrong. Anyway after the song Ring of Fire was out there was no doubt what was going on. Rip never wanted her to go on the road with Johnny in the first place and they were having problems. It was after Ring of Fire or around that time they divorced. Do you find this valuable?

That's tricky then. Maybe Johnny Cash got it wrong. It was 1965 when he was kicked out of the Opry and wrecked June's car, so how could it not have gone over well at home? The dates in the movie were wrong but I don't think that's the source of confusion. Maybe Johnny Cash's book is the source of it since there's the 1965 issue. It's hard to find the facts when it seems like everybody's books contradicts lol, but it's only human I guess. Do you find this valuable?

Here's an interesting bit to the Rip puzzle I found in "Patsy: the life and times of Patsy Cline". Just keep in mind that it's gossip in print:

"Rip Nix was one of those guys who never made it in the outside world and was threating to drag the Carter Family name through every mud hole in the state of Tennessee over the situation with her and Johnny," related Johnny Western.

Like I said I'm not quite sure Johnny Western would be the best source to go to, especially since Rip clearly never did that.

That is why I believe what June said in her book that she was married to Rip for only 6 years. He never liked having her tour with Johnny Cash and when the rummors started flying he was pretty upset. I don't think she would have stayed married to him when it started it involving her family. Do you find this valuable?

It is a great mistery about why June would say in her book that she was married to Rip only 6 years. In John Carter's book he did say, quoting his mom's journal , that John was kicked off the opry in 1965. They were both married to other people at that time. That is just another reason why I think June is cool, so much mystery in her life. I think she was pretty much a private person. She did talk to special friends like Skeeter Davis, Audrey Williams and so on. Too bad a book could not be written just on her journal. That may be a little too personal & public has not buisness to that information. Do you find this valuable?

Your probably right on that one. I had heard somewhere that June had planned to write another book, guess she never got around to it. Journals are nice but very personal. You would have to be sure it got in the right hands after death or anytime for that matter. Do you find this valuable?

I may be late in responding to this but I have to say something. My uncle Rip was married to aunt June and I am sure that they had ups and downs. But to this day...he has NEVER said one negative word that I have heard about aunt June, the marriage, uncle John or any of the family. He is a gentleman. I do remember him living at the old house very well with them (June, Carlene & Rosey) It seems that I was about in first grade when he left which was 1965 school year. It could have been shortly before I started first grade but not too long.

Thank you for clarifying that. I was going on what June said in her book. She said she was married to Rip six yrs. I think some people thought her book was incorrect. I am really enjoying your imput. . Do you find this valuable?
